Free Waves Crochet Edging Pattern – Free Chart & Tutorial

If you’ve been looking for the perfect way to finish your crochet projects with a soft, flowing border, the Waves Crochet Edging from my book Crochet Power 2: Edgings might just become your new favorite.

Inspired by the movement of ocean waves, this border works beautifully on shawls, blankets, table linens, and garments. Its gentle curves add texture without overwhelming your main project, making it ideal for both simple and intricate crochet pieces.

In this post, you’ll find:

  • The free chart and written instructions for the Waves Edging (from Crochet Power 2: Edgings)

  • A video tutorial (coming soon!)

  • Creative ideas for using this edging

  • Tips on how I’m incorporating it into The Sea Glass Journal companion projects

  • Yarn: Your choice! Works beautifully in fingering to worsted weight.

Creative Ways to Use the Waves Edging

  • Shawls & Wraps – Add a delicate frame to your finished project.

  • Blankets – The wave motif makes the perfect finish for seaside or coastal-themed throws.

  • Table Runners & Linens – Give your home décor a handcrafted touch.

  • Wearables – Think hems, sleeves, or even the edges of scarves.

Sea Glass Journal Connection: In The Sea Glass Journal, I draw inspiration from the shoreline — the textures, colors, and rhythms of the sea. The Waves Edging reflects that same feeling of timeless beauty. Some companion projects in the Sea Glass Journal Companion Guide even feature this exact edging.
