Row 1: Ch4 (counts as dc and ch1), 4dc in 4th ch from hook, turn. — 5 dcs

Row 2: Ch3 (counts as dc), 2dc in same st, 1dc in ea of next 3 sts, 3dc in last st, turn. — 9 dcs

Row 3: Ch3 (counts as dc), 2dc in same st, 1dc in ea of next 7 sts, 3dc in last st, turn. — 13 dcs

Row 4: Ch3 (counts as dc), 2dc in same st, 1dc in ea of next 5 sts, 2dc in next st, 1dc in ea of next 5 sts, 3dc in last st, turn. — 18 dcs

Row 5: Ch3 (counts as dc), 1dc in ea st across, turn.

Row 6: Ch3 (counts as dc), 1dc in ea of next 7 sts, ch2, skip 2 sts, 1dc in ea of next 8 sts, turn. 

Row 7: Ch3 (counts as dc), 1dc in ea of next 3 sts, ch11, skip next (4 dcs, ch2, 4dc), 1dc in ea of last 4 sts, turn. 

Row 8: Ch3 (counts as dc), 1dc in ea of next 2 sts, 2dc in next st, ch5, sc around the ch2 space from Row 6, ch5, 2dc in next st, 1dc in ea of last 3 sts, turn.

Row 9: Ch3 (counts as dc), 1dc in ea of next 4 sts, 3dc in next ch5 sp, ch2, 3dc in next ch5 sp, 1dc in ea of last 5 sts, turn.

Rows 10 – 12: Ch3 (counts as dc), 1dc in ea of next 7 sts, ch2, skip ch2 sp, 1dc in ea of last 8 sts, turn.

Row 13: Ch3 (counts as dc), 1dc in ea of next 7 sts, 2dc in next ch2 sp, 1dc in ea of last 8 sts, turn. — 18 dcs

Edging: 

Round 1: Working around perimeter of bookmark, work 2sc in ea row end st around, 1sc in ea st across top of row 13, and (sc, ch2, sc) in beg chain at base of row 1, slst to top of first sc at beg of round to join.

Tassel and Chain:

Chain: Ch56, slst to join into a loop.

Tassel: Cut 14 pieces of yarn 4 in (10cm) long. Fold 12 of those strings in half, with 13th piece wrapped into the fold, and with the 14th string, wrap it around the bunch, 1 in (2.5cm) from the fold. Wrap several times, knot and secure.

Assembly: Add chain to ch2 sp on tapered edge of bookmark with a slip knot. Sew tassel to opposite end of chain loop. See photo for placement.

Finishing: Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and allow to dry.
