How to Make a Reversible Pinafore Apron FREE Sewing Pattern
By Kristin Omdahl
Pinafore aprons are a great tool regardless of your craft! Whether you like cooking, baking, gardening, woodworking or dyeing yarn, chances are your wardrobe would benefit from an apron. This Pinafore Apron FREE Sewing Pattern shows you step by step how to make it in the instructions below.Pinafore aprons are created similarly to a mobius: the straps are strategically twisted and secured so the fitted apron is one continuous facing fabric. Fascinating! I chose to line the apron with a secondary print so it would be reversible. But I also added deep pockets on both sides, so it is just as handy and functional despite which side you are showing off.
This pinafore sewing pattern is now featured on Top Reveal’s Top 14 Cool Hand Sewing Craft Projects for Beginners You Can Sell! Check out the article for more fantastic ideas for making things for gifts and to sell!

[/col] [/row]Instructions:
1. Cut all fabrics to size
2. Iron all fabrics
3. Pin 2 pocket pieces of fabric together, right sides facing. Sew 1/2″ seam allowance around entire perimeter, leaving 5″ opening for turning right side out. Repeat for second pocket (2 pockets on front). Repeat for 3rd and 4th pockets if you are putting pockets on the reversible side of the apron.
4. Cut excess fabric in corners to help make the corners crisp. Turn right sides out. Using a chopstick or other bluntly pointed object for popping the corners. Press with iron.
5. With right sides facing, pin pockets symmetrically to fronts of both body pieces, per diagram.
NOTE: Decide whether you are using contrast or matching pockets to each side of the body. Top stitch around the sides and bottom of each pocket, attaching to the body piece, with a 1/4″ seam allowance.
NOTE: Make sure you don’t sew across the tops!
6. Sew each strap piece lengthwise with a 1/2″ seam allowance. Turn right side out and press with iron so the seam is lined up in the center (back side) of each strap.
Repeat for second strap. Fold raw edges of narrow ends inward and press with a 1/2″ seam allowance.
7. Pin the two body pieces of fabric together, right sides facing. Sew 1/2″ seam allowance around entire perimeter, leaving 5″ open for turning right side out.
NOTE: Leave the opening on the lower edge.
8. Cut excess fabric in corners to help make the corners crisp. Turn right sides out. Use a chopstick or other bluntly pointed object for popping the corners. Press with iron.
9. Top stitch 1/4″ seam allowance around perimeter of body pieces, turning and pressing a 1/2″ seam allowance inward at the 5″ opening edges before sewing.
10. Sew straps to apron with a fortified square and x detail for security and durability. Line first strap centered over pocket, and the second end of same strap over opposite side’s corner. Repeat for second strap. (See diagram for placement).
