Chandra Crochet Shrug | Free Pattern Page

This is a clever construction of simple square crochet motifs. This very simple project uses a clever construction of motifs crocheted into squares and triangles. Sizing determines the number of motifs you make.

18 Crochet Shrugs and Cardi Wraps You’ll Love for Layering

What you will need:

Gauge:

Note: Sizing is determined by gauge of square motif.

Square motif 6 in (15cm) = 36 in (91cm) bust, 18 in (46cm) length

Square motif 6.5 in (16cm) = 39 in (99cm) bust, 19 in (48cm) length

Square motif 7 in (18cm) = 42 (107cm) bust, 21 in (53cm) length

Square motif 7.5 in (19 cm) = 45 in (114 cm) bust, 22.5 in (57 cm) length

Square motif 8 in (20cm) = 48 in (122cm) bust, 24 in (61cm) length

Finished Sizes:

36 (39, 42, 45, 48) in or 91 (99, 107, 114, 122) cm bust circumference

18 (19, 21, 22.5, 24) in or 46 (48, 53, 57, 61) cm length

Chain 3 join (ch3 join): Ch 1, slst to adjoining ch3 sp, ch 1

Instructions:

Make 26 square motifs and 9 triangle motifs. Join together per schematic.

First Square Motif:

With color A, Ch9

Row 1: Ch5 (counts as dc, ch2), dc in 8th ch from hook, (ch2, skip 2 chs, dc in next ch)x2. — 4 dcs, 3 ch2 sps

Row 2: Ch5 (counts as dc, ch2), dc in next dc, (ch2, dc in next dc)x2. — 4 dcs, 3 ch2 sps

Row 3: Rep row 2. Fasten off.

Round 4: With color B, join with slst to ch2 sp in center of row 3, ch3 (counts as dc), (dc, ch3, 2dc) in same ch2 sp, [(2dc, ch3)x2, 2dc] in corner sp, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in end of row 2, [(2dc, ch3)x2, 2dc] in next corner sp, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in next ch2 sp, [(2dc, ch3)x2, 2dc] in next corner, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in end of row 2, [(2dc, ch3)x2, 2dc] in next corner sp, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 12 ch3 sps

Fasten off.

Joining remaining motifs using layout as a guide.

Complete motif through Round 3. On Round 4, substitute a ch3 join for a ch3 on the sides of the motif when at an adjacent motif.

Note: There are no corners to join.

Triangle Motif:

With color A, ch9

Row 1: Ch5 (counts as dc, ch2), dc in 8th ch from hook, (ch2, skip 2 chs, dc in next ch)x2. — 4 dcs, 3 ch2 sps

Row 2: Ch3, dc in next dc, ch2, dc2tog over next 2 dcs. — 1 ch2 sp

Row 3: Ch3, dc in next dc. Fasten off.

Round 4: With color B, join with slst in end of row 2, ch3 (counts as dc), (dc, ch3, 2dc) in same sp, in next corner (top of row 3), work [(2dc, ch3)x2, 2dc], in next end of row work (2dc, ch3, 2dc), in next corner (side of row 1) work [(2dc, ch3)x2, 2dc], in next ch2 sp work (2dc, ch3, 2dc), in next corner (side of row 1) work [(2dc, ch3)x2, 2dc], slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. Fasten off.

Note: Substitute a ch3 join for a ch3 on the side(s) of the motif when at an adjacent motif.

Collar:

Round 1: With color B, slst to any ch2 sp, ch3 (counts as dc), dc in same sp, *ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp. Rep from * around, ch2, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join.

Round 2: Slst into next ch2 sp, ch3 (counts as dc), dc in same sp, *ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp. Rep from * around, ch2, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. Fasten off.

Finishing:

Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and allow to dry.
