My Debut Novel Is Finally Here: The Sea Glass Journal by Kristin Omdahl

Today is a day I’ve been quietly dreaming about for a very long time.

After more than two decades of designing knit and crochet patterns, writing craft books, and sharing creative projects with this wonderful community… I’m finally releasing my first novel.

📖 The Sea Glass Journal is now available.

This story has been living in my heart for years, but it took courage—and the right moment in life—to finally bring it to the page.

A Different Kind of Creative Journey

Many of you know me through crochet and knitting. Over the years I’ve written over a thousand patterns and more than twenty craft books. Storytelling has always been part of that process in a small way—through teaching, designing, and sharing ideas.

But writing fiction is something entirely different.

A novel allows you to explore emotions, memories, second chances, and the quiet turning points that shape a life. In many ways, it felt like learning a new craft all over again.

There were moments of excitement, moments of doubt, and many drafts along the way. I gave myself permission to step back when I needed to and let the story rest on the “back burner,” just like I often do with design ideas.

Eventually, the pieces came together.

The Story Behind The Sea Glass Journal

The Sea Glass Journal follows Tess Wilder, a woman whose life has been paused longer than she realizes.

When Tess inherits a weathered cottage in Cypress Key from a woman she barely knew, she expects paperwork and dust. Instead, she discovers something unexpected—a hidden journal that slowly reveals the reflections of someone who once postponed her own dreams.

As Tess reads the journal, she begins to recognize echoes of her own life and the choices she has quietly been avoiding.

Set along the coast and woven with themes of memory, forgiveness, and second chances, the story explores what happens when we finally give ourselves permission to begin again.

A Dream From Long Ago

Writing a novel has been a dream of mine since childhood.

Like many dreams, it sat patiently in the background while life unfolded in other ways—building a business, designing patterns, writing instructional books, and connecting with this amazing creative community.

Last year I decided it was time to stop postponing that dream.

The result is The Sea Glass Journal, and I’m incredibly grateful to finally share it with you.
