Welcome to Part 1 of the Sea Glass Secrets Mystery Crochet Along (MCAL)! ✨ This mystery crochet along is inspired by my brand new novel, The Sea Glass Journal.
Today we’re beginning with the Star Square crochet pattern, a beautiful motif inspired by stars in the night sky. This design is the perfect way to kick off our creative journey together — it’s both fun to stitch and full of meaning.
Why the Star Square?
Stars have always been symbols of guidance and inspiration. In my upcoming novel The Sea Glass Journal, stars play an important role in both the story and the themes of hope and wonder. That’s why we’re starting this MCAL with a star motif — it connects our crochet journey with the deeper story I can’t wait to share with you.

Yarn:
I used Lion Brand One Pound Yarn (worsted weight) for this tutorial. You can use any yarn and crochet hook appropriate for that weight yarn.
Note: For a beginning chain, I like to use a larger hook for hte chain, then switch to my regular hook size for the remainder of the project. In this example, I did the beginning chain in K/10.5 (6.5mm) crochet hook and switched to G/6 (4mm) crochet hook for remainder of the square.
