How to Make Knit Motif Ornaments: Part 3 Pinwheel Flower Free Knitting Pattern by Kristin Omdahl

Working my way though the reference section of my book, “Knitting Outside the Swatch” I’m making Christmas tree ornaments from each flower and motif in the book. This is part 3, the third motif is Six-Petal Pinwheel Flower.

Follow along in this tutorial video to learn how to make the flower motif AND turn it into a handmade ornament for your tree! It is deceptively simple to make. Notice the variation in the photo? Simply work in a base of stockinette (knit on the right side, purl on the wrong side) or garter stitch (knit every row) to achieve the different looks!

Personally, I think you could do an assortment of these flowers for a whole tree! But I promised my son I would stick to red, green and gold.
