Color A Red
Color B Gold
F/5 (3.75mm) crochet hook
H/8 (5mm) crochet hook
Floral Craft Topiary with 4” foam ball (at local craft stores)
Hair pins, these found in wedding accessories with 7mm rhinestones on top (floral pins in floral craft accessories will work as well)
Fabric stitch (glue found at local craft stores)
Yarn needle, scissors
Vase

Gauge: each flower is 2.5” diameter

Finished size: This topiary is 19” tall and the foam ball is 4” diameter

Instructions:
Roses (make approx 16, or as many as needed to cover your foam ball):
Round 1: with color A and smaller hook, ch5, slst to 5th ch from hook to form ring. Sc, hdc, 6dc in ring. NOTE: do not join in round, remainder of rose is worked in spiral.

Round 2: 2dc-tbl in ea st around. — 16 dcs

Round 3: *2dc-tbl in next st, 1dc-tbl in next st. Rep from * around. — 24 dcs

Round 4: turn, ch3 (counts as dc), work 6dc in same st, *skip next st, sc in next st, skip next st, 7dc in next st*. Rep from * to * around round 3, then working in free loops on the front side of rounds 2 and 1, rep from * to * to end. Fasten off, pull end tail through original ch5 ring, secure to back side and weave in ends.

Corkscrews (make 2): With color B and larger hook, ch300, (dc, ch2, 2dc) in 4th ch from hook, *(2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next ch. Rep from * across.

Weave in loose ends.

Assembly:
Using hair pins, secure roses to surface of foam ball in an offset pattern (see photos). With small dots of glue, join the outer petals to the petals of the adjacent flowers, with the goal of hiding the foam surface of the ball. Let dry.
Using some type of fill (grocery bags or paper), secure the topiary inside the vase, with no more than an 1” between the top of the base and the edge of the vase. Lay your corkscrews on the bed, fluffing them and making lots of texture. Tuck the ends down the sides of the vase to secure.
