Be So Brave Valla Shawl FREE Knit Pattern

This clever construction of stripes has horizontal and vertical stripes without carrying yarn! Each row is worked with only one yarn with the technique of slipped stitch mosaic.
It is a top down construction half-hexagon shawl. This particular shape is easy to wear and can be worn in several ways. Very versatile!

Materials:
Be So Brave Yarn; 100% American Merino Wool, #4 medium worsted weight; 120 yds (109m) per 2oz (56g) hank;
(2) hanks Color A Cape Cod Bay
(2) hanks Color B Plymouth Rock
US10.5 (6.5mm) knitting needles Yarn needle

Gauge: 2.5 sts/4 rows = 1″ after blocking in garter stitch

Finished size: 18″ long, 40″ wide along each of the 3 lower edges (120″ wide)

Instructions: with yarn A, CO 4+11+4+11+4+11+4 = 49 sts
Row 1: with yarn B, (sl1 wyib, k1)x2, *yo, k11, yo, (sl1 wyib, k1)x2. — 55 sts

Row 2: (p1, sl1 wyif)x2, *k13, (p1, sl1 wyif)x2. Rep from * 2 more times.

Row 3: with yarn A, (k1, sl1 wyib)x2, *yo, k13, yo, (k1, sl1)x2. Rep from * 2 more times. — 61 sts

Row 4: (sl1 wyif, p1)x2, *k15, (sl1 wyif, p1)x2. Rep from * 2 more times.

Row 5: with yarn B, (sl1 wyib, k1)x2, *yo, k15, yo, (sl1 wyib, k1)x2. Rep from * two more times. — 67 sts

Row 6: (p1, sl1 wyif)x2, *k17, (p1, sl1 wyif)x2. Rep from * two more times.

Row 7: with yarn A, (k1, sl1 wyib)x2, *yo, k17, yo, (k1, sl1 wyib)x2. — 73 sts

Row 8: (sl1 wyif, p1)x2, *k19, (sl1 wyif, p1)x2. Rep from * 2 more times.

Row 9: with yarn B,  (sl1 wyib, k1)x2, *yo, k19, yo, (sl1 wyib, k1)x2. Rep from * two more times. — 79 sts
Row 10: (p1, sl1 wyif)x2, *k21, (p1, sl1 wyif)x2. Rep from * two more times.

Row 11: with yarn A, (sl1 wyib, k1)x2, *yo, k21, yo, (sl1 wyib, k1)x2. Rep from * two more times. — 85 sts

Row 12: (sl1 wyif, p1)x2, *k23, (sl1 wyif, p1)x2. Rep from * 2 more times.

Row 13 – 76: rep rows 9 – 12 sixteen more times.

Or rep the last 4 rows until you reach your desired length or run out of yarn.

BO all sts loosely.

Weave in loose ends. Block to finished measurements and let dry.
