Announcing Day of the Dragonfly Fabric Collection by Kristin Omdahl

Two years ago, selling my Yarns, Glow and other products at a trade show in Nashville, TN, a woman walked into my booth and asked me about designing a fabric collection for a quilting manufacturer. We exchanged cards, and I gave her permission to take photos in my booth to show her boss upon her arrival back to NYC.
I was flattered by the compliment and followed up with her after the show. But it was a couple months before I got the phone call from her boss giving me the green light to design a collection of quilting fabrics!
They wanted the theme to be sugar skulls. And while I am a fan of that style of art, I thought it was really important to make it my own style. And how better than to make it more girly? So instead of stitching the mouth shut, I covered the mouths with flowers, dragonflies and other girly, whimsical designs.
Then I was able to create a few complementary prints to coordinate with the KO girly-fied sugar skulls. So I pulled from the flowers, vines, dragonflies and butterflies to create a couple of floral prints for medium scale and then a couple of more abstract prints for fine scale.
To take it even a step further, we made each of the prints in a variety of color ways (all coordinating of course) and kept a few uncolored so you can color your own with fabric markers! How fabulous of an idea is that for a class project?
Fast forward more than a year, and the first bolt of each print arrived at my door this week. I cannot begin to tell you how exciting it is for me to see them physically. The prints are crisp and gorgeous. And the fabric is soft. It will make beautiful quilts and bags, but I think it is also suitable for sundresses and summery clothes. BONUS!
I am selling the Day of the Dragonfly Quilting Fabric Collection in my Spoonflower Shop. Each fabric is available by the yard.

xoxo, Kristin

P.S. I see a beach quilt, a tote bag and a sundress for my friend’s 2 year old girl in my very near future! Time to bring out the sewing machine!
