Instruction to make the Serene Crochet Mandala Wall Hanging Free Pattern:

NOTE: If you are changing color ever round, fasten off at the end of each round. If you are using one color for the whole project, do not fasten off at the end of each round.

Round 1: With color A, ch6, slst to 1st ch to form ring. Ch1, 16sc in ring. Slst to first st at beg of round to join. — 16 scs

Round 2: Ch4 (counts as dc, ch1), (dc in next st, ch1)x15, slst to 3rd of beg ch at beg of round to join. — 16 dcs

Round 3: Ch1, sc in same st, (ch3, sc in next st)x15, ch1, hdc in top of first st at beg of round to join (ch1, hdc counts as last ch3 sp). — 16 ch3 sps

Round 4: ch1, sc in same st, *ch9, sc in next ch3 sp. Rep from * around, ch4, dtr in first st at beg of round to join (ch4, dtr counts as last ch9 sp). — 16 ch9 sps

Round 5: Ch3 (counts as dc), 3dc in same sp, *ch1, 4dc in next ch9 sp. Rep from * around, ch1, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 16 ch1 sps

Round 7: slst into next ch3 sp, ch1, sc in same ch3 sp, ch5, *sc, in next ch3 sp, ch5. Rep from * around, on last rep replace ch5 with ch2, dc in top of first st at beg of round to join. — 32 ch5 sps

Round 8: ch1, sc in same sp, 9dc in next ch5 sp, *sc in next ch5 sp, 9dc in next ch5 sp. Rep from * around, slst to first sc at beg of round to join. — 16 9dc shells

NOTE: The sample in the photo ended after round 9 because the diameter of the motif fit the diameter of the ring.

Round 10: ch1, sc in ch1 sp, [(dc, ch1)x6, dc] in next ch5 sp, *sc in next ch1 sp, [(dc, ch1)x6, dc] in next ch5 sp. Rep from * around, slst to first st at beg of round to join. — 16 shells

Round 11: slst into first ch1 sp, ch1, sc in same sp, (ch3, sc in next ch1 sp)x5, ch1. *Sc in next ch1 sp, (ch3, sc in next ch1 sp)x5, ch1. Rep from * around. Slst to first st at beg of round to join. — 80 ch3 sps

NOTE: if your metal ring can be opened, you can slip the mandala motif onto it without having to crochet onto the ring. Otherwise, you want to replace a ch with a slst to join to the ring, similarly to joining motifs together.

If you join round 9 to a metal ring (like the sample shown): slst into ea of next 3 dcs, ch3, dc in same st. 2dc in next st, ch2, slst to metal ring, ch2, 2dc idea of next 2 sts. *Ch1, skip next 5 sts, 2dc in ea of next 2 sts, ch2, slst to metal ring, ch2, 2dc in ea of next 2 sts. Rep from * around, ch1, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 16 ch5 sps

If you join round 11 to a metal ring:

slst into first ch1 sp, ch1, sc in same sp, (ch3, sc in next ch1 sp)x2, ch1, slst to metal ring, ch1, sc in next ch 1 sp, (ch3, sc in next ch1 sp)x2, ch1. *Sc in next ch1 sp, (ch3, sc in next ch1 sp)x2, ch1, slst to metal ring, ch1, sc in next ch1 sp, (ch3, sc in next ch1 sp)x2, ch1. Rep from * around. Slst to first st at beg of round to join. — 80 ch3 sps

FRINGE:
Cut fringe 14″ long, using 13 strands per section, join to metal ring.
