Crochet is such a wonderful way to upcycle and bring new life to old clothing. It is a great way to modify new clothes, too. Embellish any sleeveless top or dress for more coverage. This simple sleeve is easy to make, and by minimally sewing it to the garment, you can create a cold shoulder look, too.

What you will need:

• 300 yds (274m) #2 sport weight yarn
• H/8 (5mm) crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors
• Sewing needle and thread
• Sleeveless top or dress

Gauge: 

13 sts / 3 rounds = 4 in (10cm) in pattern.

Finished Size:

15 (18, 21) in or 38.1 (45.7, 53.3)cm circumference x 12 in (cm) long.

Stitch Guide: 

Chain (ch), slip stitch (slst), double crochet (dc), treble crochet (tr) and 2 treble crochet cluster (2tr-cl).

Pattern notes: 

• Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
• Join with a slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise indicated
• Do not turn work at the end of each round.

Instructions:

Ch 50 (60, 70), slst to first ch to form ring, being careful not to twist.

Round 1: Ch4 (counts as tr), 1tr in ea of next 4 chs, skip next ch, 2tr-cl in next ch, ch2, 2tr-cl in next ch, ch2, 2tr-cl in next ch, skip next ch, *1tr in ea of next 5 chs, skip next ch, 2tr-cl in next ch, ch2, 2tr-cl in next ch, ch2, 2tr-cl in next ch, skip next ch. Rep from * around, slst to top of ch4 at beg of round to join.

Round 2: Ch4 (counts as tr), 1tr in ea of next 4 trs, (ch3, sc in next ch2 sp)x2, ch3, *1tr in ea of next 5 trs, (ch3, sc in next ch2 sp)x2, ch3. Rep from * around, slst to top of ch4 at beg of round to join.

Round 3: Ch4 (counts as tr), 1tr in ea of next 4 trs, skip next ch3 sp, (2tr-cl, ch2, 2tr-cl, ch2, 2tr-cl) in next ch3 sp, skip next ch3 sp, *1tr in ea of next 5 trs, skip next ch3 sp, (2tr-cl, ch2, 2tr-cl, ch2, 2tr-cl) in next ch3 sp, skip next ch3 sp. Rep from * around, slst to top of ch4 at beg of round to join.

Rounds 4 – 13: Rep rounds 2 – 3 five more times, or for desired sleeve length. Sample shown is through round 13.

Round 14: Ch4 (counts as first tr), 1tr in next tr, ch1, skip 1 tr, 1tr in ea of next 2 trs, (ch3, sc in next ch2 sp)x2, ch3, *1tr in ea of next 2 trs, ch1, skip 1 tr, 1tr in ea of next 2 trs, (ch3, sc in next ch2 sp)x2, ch3. Rep from * around, slst to top of ch4 at beg of round to join.

Round 15: Slst into first ch1 sp, ch4, tr in same sp, (ch2, 2tr-cl)x2 in same sp, ch1, skip next ch3 sp, [(2tr-cl, ch2)x2, 2tr-cl] in next ch3 sp, skip next ch3 sp, *ch1, 1tr in ea of next 2 trs, ch1, skip 1 tr, 1tr in ea of next 2 trs, ch1, skip next ch3 sp, [(2tr-cl, ch2)x2, 2tr-cl] in next ch3 sp, skip next ch3 sp. Rep from * around, slst to top of first st at beg of round to join.

Round 16: Slst into first ch2 sp, (ch3, dc, ch3, slst) in same ch2 sp, crochet (slst, ch3, dc, ch3, slst) in ea ch1 and ch2 sp around, slst to top of first st at beg of round to join. Fasten off.

Assembly: Sew 5 in (12.7cm) of sleeve to underarm body of top or dress, centered at the side seam.

Finishing:

Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and allow to dry.
