Use any weight yarn and any size crochet hook. Repeat the one-row pattern repeat until you are happy with the size of your shawl. The edging is optional and also very easy.

Easy Breezy Crochet Shawl Pattern


 

What you will need:

  • 590 yds (540m) #3 dk weight yarn
  • K/10.5 (6.5mm) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Shown in:

Mandala by Lion Brand Yarn; 100% acrylic; 5.3 oz. (150 g) per 590 yd (540m) ; color Troll, 1 ball.

Gauge: 

Although gauge is not critical for this project, my gauge is 12 sts / 6 rows = 4 in (10cm).

Here are some suggested size recommendations for top down triangular shawls:

Suggested Shawl sizes:

Kerchief: 36 in (91cm) wide x 18 in (46cm) long

Shawlette: 24 in (61cm) – 30 in (76cm) wide x 48 in (122cm) to 60 in (152cm) wide

Full sized shawl: 36 in (91cm) – 40 in (102cm) long x 72 in (183cm) to 80 in (203cm) wide

Use the chart below to gain yardage estimates for making shawls in any weight yarn!

Shawl yardage estimates based on yarn weight:

Finished Size:

72 in (182.8cm) wide x 31 in (78.7cm) long.

Stitch Guide: 

Chain (ch), slip stitch (slst), double crochet (dc), and chain 3 picot (ch3 picot).

Chain 3 picot (ch3 picot): Ch3, sc in 3rd ch from hook.

Pattern notes: 

Weave in loose ends as work progresses

Turn work at the end of each row.

Set up Row: Ch3 (counts as dc), 2dc in ring, ch1, 3dc in ring, ch3, 3dc in ring, ch1, 3dc in ring, turn. — 12 dcs, 2 ch1 spa, 1 ch3 sp

Row 1: Ch6 (counts as first dc, ch3), 3dc in next ch1 sp, ch1, (3dc, ch3, 3dc) in next ch3 sp, ch1, 3dc in next ch1 sp, ch3, dc in last st, turn.

Row 2: Ch6 (counts as first dc, ch3), (3dc in next ch sp, ch1)x2, (3dc, ch3, 3dc) in next ch3 sp, (ch1, 3dc in next ch sp)x2, ch3, dc in last st, turn.

Row 3: Ch6 (counts as first dc, ch3), (3dc in next ch sp, ch1)x3, (3dc, ch3, 3dc) in next ch3 sp, (ch1, 3dc in next ch sp)x3, ch3, dc in last st, turn.

Row 4: Ch6 (counts as first dc, ch3), (3dc in next ch sp, ch1)x4, (3dc, ch3, 3dc) in next ch3 sp, (ch1, 3dc in next ch sp)x4, ch3, dc in last st, turn.

Row 5: Ch6 (counts as first dc, ch3), (3dc in next ch sp, ch1)x5, (3dc, ch3, 3dc) in next ch3 sp, (ch1, 3dc in next ch sp)x5, ch3, dc in last st, turn.

Note: Rep row 2 for desired length, making sure that you are adding one to the repeats in bold on each additional row.

Rows 6 – 28: Continue in establlished pattern, repeating row 2. Turn work after each row.

Edging:

Row 1: Slst into first ch3 sp, (ch3, dc, ch3 picot, ch3, slst) in same sp, *ch1, slst in next dc, ch3, dc in next dc, ch3 picot, ch3, slst in next dc*. Rep from * to * across to next ch3 sp: (ch1, slst, ch3, dc, ch3 picot, ch3, slst) in ch3 sp. Rep from * to * across to last ch3 sp: (ch1, slst, ch3, dc, ch3 picot, ch3, slst) in ch3 sp. Fasten off.

Finishing:

Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and allow to dry.
