- D/3 (3mm), G/6 (4mm), H/8 (5mm) or J/10 (6mm) crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.

Note: Use whichever hook size gives you the correct gauge for the size hat you intend to make. The smaller the hook you use, the smaller the hat will result. The hat sizes are determined by the gauge measurement of the individual motifs, after blocking.
Motif 1:
Round 1: Ch9, slst in 5th ch from hook to form ring, (ch4, 3tr-cl in ring, ch4, slst in ring)x3, ch4, 3tr-cl in ring, slst to 4th ch of beg ch.
Round 2: Ch5, sc in next ch4 sp, ch7, sc in next ch4 sp, ch5, sc in next ch4 sp, ch7, sc in next ch4 sp, ch5, sc in next ch4 sp. Leave rem
motif unworked at this point. Do not fasten off.
Motif 2:

Rep motifs 4 – 6 four times, then rep motifs 4 – 5 once more.
Motif 21: Rep motif 6.
Note: This hat is crocheted with a square (4 sided) motif that is converted to a triangle (3 sided) motif for the crown.
The final round is not completed for motifs 19, 16, 13, 10, 7, 4 and 1 (bottom edge of the hat) because the scalloped edge of the exposed flowers makes a pretty and unique brim. If you choose, you can
complete the final round of motifs 19 through 1 and add a different edging for the brim.
Note: Motifs 22 – 28 are triangular motifs that will join to motifs 21 – 3, respectively, and to the adjacent triangle motifs (i.e. 22 to 23, 23, to 24, etc), but the tops will be points. The points will be joined together as a total decrease for the crown. Then, the incomplete sides of motifs 21, 20 and 19 will be completed as they are simultaneously joined to motifs 28, 3, 2 and 1, respectively.
Motif 22:
Round 1: Ch16, slst in 5th ch from hook to form ring, (ch4, 3tr-cl, ch4, slst in ring)x2, ch4, 3tr-cl in ring, slst to
4th ch of beg ch.
