Chain Flower Stitch Design Heather Hat – Now a Free Pattern, too!

What you will need:
- 135 (150, 165) yds or 123.4 (137.1, 150.9)m #2 sport weight yarn
- G/6 (4mm) crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Finished Sizes:
- 16 (20, 24) in or 40.6 (50.8, 61)cm circumference.
- 7 (9, 11) in or 17.8 (22.9, 27.9)cm tall.
- Shown in size 20 in (50.8cm) circumference.
Stitch Guide:
See glossary for chain (ch), double crochet (dc), single crochet (sc), half double crochet, double treble crochet (dtr) and slip stitch (slst).
Fan: [(sc, ch5)x3, sc] in same stitch.
Gauge:
First 2 rounds = 2 in (5cm) in diameter.
Instructions:
Ch6, slst in 6th ch from hook to form ring.
Round 1: Ch3 (counts as dc), 15 (19, 23) dc in ring, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 16 (20, 24) dcs
Round 2: Ch8 (counts as dc, ch5), skip next st, fan in next st, ch5, skip next st, *dc in next st, ch5, skip next st, fan in next st, ch5; rep from * around, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 4 (5, 6) fans
Round 3: Ch1, sc in first st, *ch1, sc in next ch5 loop, (ch3, sc) in ea of next 2 ch5 loops, ch1, sc in next dc. Rep from * around, replace last sc with slst in first sc to join. — 8 (10, 12) ch1 sps, 8 (10, 12) ch3 sps
Round 4: Ch1, fan in first st, ch5, dc in next sc, *ch5, fan in next sc, ch5, dc in next dc, rep from * around, dtr in first sc to join (counts as last ch5 sp. — 8 (10, 12) fans
Round 5: Ch1, sc in first dc, *ch1, sc in next ch5 loop, (ch3, sc) in ea of next 2 ch5 loops, ch1, sc in next dc; rep from * around, ch1, slst to top of first sc at beg of round to join.
Round 6: Ch1, *fan in next sc, ch5, skip next sc, dc in next sc, ch5, skip next sc. Rep from * around, except replace last ch5 with dtr in first sc at beg of round to join (dtr counts as last ch5 sp).
Round 7: Ch1, sc in dc, *ch1, sc in next ch5 sp, (ch3, sc in next ch5 sp)x2, ch2, sc in next dc. Rep from * around, except on last rep, replace sc with slst to top of first st at beg of round to join.
Rep rounds 6 – 7 until hat is 1 in (2.5cm) from desired height.
Brim:
Round 1: Ch2 (counts as hdc), 1hdc in ea ch1 sp and 3hdc in ea ch3 sp around, slst in top of ch2 at beg of round to join. — 64 (80, 96) hdcs
Round 2: Ch2 (counts as hdc), 1hdc in ea st around, slst to top of ch2 at beg of round to join. — 64 (80, 96) hdcs
Rounds 3 – 4: Rep round 2 two more times. Fasten off.
Finishing:
Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and allow to dry.
