This is an easy afghan project that is also portable. Make each square individually and then join them all together at the end. The six motif squares work up quickly. Have fun mixing and matching the colors of your choice.

What you will need:

• 1160 yds (1061m) #5 bulky weight yarn
  or
  145 yds (132m) ea of 6 colors and 290 yds (265m)of one color (Putty)
• L/11 (8mm) crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Instructions:

Note: Instructions are written for working each motif in a solid color. You can mix and match in any combination by fastening off one color and joining a new color with a slip stitch on the next round. The sample is shown with one of ea 6 motif designs worked in a solid color and one in mixed colors.

The sample shown in the photos uses the following colors for each motif:

Motif A, make 2. One motif is crocheted rounds 1 – 6 in color goldenrod. One motif is crocheted rounds 1 – 2 in teal, rounds 3 – 4 in cream and rounds 5 – 6 in cornflower.

Motif B, make 2. One motif is crocheted rounds 1 – 6 in color cornflower. One motif is crocheted rounds 1 – 3 in lavender, rounds 4 – 5 in raisin and round 6 in goldenrod.

Motif C, make 2. One motif is crocheted rounds 1 – 7 in lavender. One motif is crocheted rounds 1 – 4 in goldenrod, round 5 in lavender and rounds 6 – 7 in teal.

Motif D, make 2. One motif is crocheted rounds 1 – 6 in cream. One motif is crocheted rounds 1 – 2 in lavender, rounds 3 – 4 in cornflower, round 5 in goldenrod and round 6 in taupe.

Motif E, make 2. One motif is crocheted rounds 1 – 5 in teal. One motif is crocheted round 1 in cornflower, round 2 in teal, round 3 in goldenrod, and rounds 4 – 5 in raisin.

Motif F, make 2. One motif is crocheted rounds 1 – 5 in raisin. One motif is crocheted rounds 1 – 2 in cornflower, rounds 3 – 4 in lavender, and round 5 in cream.

All joining of motifs and the edging are crocheted in color Taupe.

Motif A:

Ch4, slst to 4th ch from hook to form ring.

Round 1: Ch3 (counts as dc), work 15dc in ring, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 16 dcs

Round 2: Ch4 (counts as dc, ch1), *dc in next dc, ch1. Rep from * around, slst to 3rd ch of beg ch4 to join. — 16 ch1 sps

Round 3: Slst into first ch1 sp, ch1, sc in same cp, *ch2, (sc, ch7, sc) in next ch1 sp, ch2, sc in next ch1 sp. Rep from * around, on last repeat replace sc with slst to first sc at beg of round to join. — 8 ch7 sps

Round 4: Ch1, sc in first sc, *(6dc, ch3, 6dc) in next ch7 sp, skip next sc and ch2 sp, sc in next sc. Rep from * around, except on last repeat replace sc with slst to top of first sc at beg of round to join. — 8 ch3 sps

Assembly: 

Join squares by holding 2 together wrong side to wrong side and work a row of sc loosely through both layers across. *Ch1, then join the next 2 squares wrong side to wrong side and work a row of sc loosely through both layers. Rep from * until you have one row of 4 motifs joined along one side. Join remaining pieces in same manner across opposite horizontal side of first 4 squares partially joined. Then join rows vertically working long sc rows through both layers, and work a ch1 over each transition between 2 squares to cross over the join in the opposite direction.

Edging: 

Round 1: Join yarn along any edge of perimeter of joined motifs. Ch3 (counts as dc), work 1dc in ea st and ch sp to ch3 corner, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch3 sp, *1dc in ea st and ch sp to next ch3 corner, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in next ch3 corner. Rep from * around, 1dc in ea st and ch sp to end, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join.

Round 2: Ch3 (counts as dc), *work 1dc in ea st to ch3 corner, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch3 sp corner. Rep from * around, 1dc in ea st to end, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. Fasten off.

Finishing:

Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and allow to dry.
