Instructions:

Set Up Round: Slst to right front strap, *ch4, tr in 4th ch from hook. Rep from * across width to left front strap, slst around left front strap, rep from * for same number of foundation ovals as worked across front, slst around back left strap, rep from * for width  across back to right back strap, slst around back right strap, rep from * for same number of foundation ovals as worked across front, slst to first slst at beg of round to join. — 50 foundation ovals

Note: For an XL tank top, I worked 14 foundation ovals across front, 14 foundation ovals across each side, and 8 foundation ovals across back. For whatever size you are making, work same number of foundation ovals for each side as you do for the front, and the back is generally narrower between the straps so adjust the number of foundation ovals accordingly. Make sure you ultimately have an even number of foundation ovals for the set up round.

Round 1: Slst into first foundation oval, ch1, sc in same sp, ch5, sc in same sp, 7dc in next foundation oval, *(sc, ch5, sc) in next foundation oval, 7dc in next foundation oval. Rep from * around, slst to top of first sc at beg of round to join. — 25 7dc shells

Round 2: Slst into next ch5 sp, ch1, sc in same sp, *dc in next dc, (ch1, dc in next dc)x6, sc in next ch5 sp. Rep from * around, except on last repeat, replace sc with slst into first st at beg of round to join.

Round 3: Ch8 (counts as dc, *ch5), skip next ch1 sp, sc in next ch1 sp, ch5, skip 2 ch1 sps, sc in next ch1 sp, ch5, skip 1 ch1 sp, dc in next sc. Rep from * around, except on last repeat, replace last sc with slst to 3rd ch of ch8 at beg of round to join.

Round 4: Slst into first ch5 sp, ch1, sc in same sp, 7dc in next ch5 sp, *sc in next ch5 sp, ch5, sc in next ch5 sp, 7dc in next ch5 sp. Rep from * around, ch2, dc into first sc at beg of round to join.

Rounds 5 – 8: Rep rounds 2 – 4 once, then rep round 2 once more.

Edging:

Round 9: Ch1, sc in same sc, *in each of next six ch1 sps work (slst, ch3, dc, ch3, slst), sc in next sc. Rep from * around, on last repeat replace sc with slst to first st at beg of round to join.

Fasten off.

Assembly:

With sewing needle and thread, evenly sew the foundation ovals along the front edge to the top of the front of the tank top. Repeat for the back. Leave the sides loose and unattached. You can also carefully secure the edge with little dots of fabric glue if you don’t want to sew the ruffle to the tank top.

Finishing:

Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and allow to dry.
