Happy Halloween everyone! I have such fond memories of dressing up with the kids for Halloween over the years. And DIY crafting the costumes, or the makeup effects or the props. One year I turned my son into a member of the KISS rock band. We went as zombies once. I think we did vampires a couple of times. My favorite costume was Sully from Monsters, Inc. when my son was a toddler. So many great memories!

Halloween is PERFECT for DIY Crafting!

One of my favorite halloweens is from 9 years ago. Marlon went as Al Capone – we bought his ‘suit’ costume and toy weapon – but I created the ‘stubble beard look’ with makeup and make him a cigar, too! I took a paper grocery bag and lined it with glue, rolled it up tightly, let it dry, and cut blunt ends with a really sharp, serrated knife. It looked so real!

For my nephew who went as Perseus I did masculine facial hair with make up for him as well. And for my niece (and myself) I drew elaborate fairy eyes with a beautiful palette of pinks, golds, turquoise, purple and glitter for our eyes. That might have been my favorite part!

Halloween Memories:

I’m on the right; and unicorn and black kitty. Anyone who lives up north will appreciate this: my sister and dressed up as Sandy from Grease (but it was Michigan so our costumes were over our winter coats)!
