Trinity Shawl Crochet Pattern

What you will need:

• 560 yds (512m) #4 worsted weight yarn

• K/10.5 (6.5mm) crochet hook

• Yarn needle

• Scissors

The original sample shawl is shown in a thick & thin textured cotton yarn, similar to this yarn: Brava Bulky it is the shawl in purples and blues. The second shawl sample was made in a thinner yarn (shown in purple and pink) and the yarn was very similar to this yarn: Tencel Bamboo Double.  Here are several more yarn options I suggest you to consider. Suggested yarn ideas:

Rainbow Cotton 8/8: 100% cotton, #3 dk weight yarn; 82 yds (72m) per 50g ball; suggested needle size US4-6.  This yarn retails for $2.60 and comes in 100 colors.

Rainbow Bamboo: 60% Bamboo Viscose, 40% Cotton, #2 sport weight yarn; 273 yds (250g) per 3.5oz (100g) ball; suggested needle size US 3 – 4. This yarn retails for $9.80 and comes in 39 colors.

Soft Bamboo Double: 70% Bamboo, 23% Cotton, 7% Acrylic, #2 sport weight yarn; 126 yds (115m) per 50 gm ball; suggested needle size US 5 – 6.  This yarn retails for $5.99 and comes in 26 colors.

Tencel Bamboo Fine: 40% Tencel, 60% Bamboo, #1 fingering weight yarn; 210 yds (230m) per 50 gm ball; suggested needle size US 1 – 3. . This yarn retails for $6.49 per ball and comes in 24 colors.

Tencel Bamboo Double: 40% Tencel, 60% Bamboo, #2 sport weight yarn; 142 yds (130m) per 50g ball; suggested needle size US 3 – 6.  This yarn retails for $6.49 and comes in 20 colors.

Bamboo Soft Fine Yarn: 50% bamboo / 50% acrylic; 328 yds (300m) per 100 gm (3.5oz) ball. It comes in 23 colors. The suggested needle size is 3mm (US4). It is labeled a #2 sport weight yarn. This yarn retails for $2.75/ball or $10.99 per 4 balls.

Gauge: 7 sts / 4 rows = 4 in (10 cm) in treble crochet, after blocking.

Finished Size: 54 in (137cm) wide x 24 in (61cm) tall.

Stitch Guide: chain (ch), single crochet (sc), slip stitch (slst), and treble crochet (tr).

5 Treble Popcorn (5trpopcorn): Work 5tr in specified stitch. Remove hook, insert hook in first and last st, yo, pull through both sts, ch1 to tighten.

Instructions:

With color A, ch5, slst to 5th ch from hook to form ring.

Row 1: Ch4 (counts as a tr, 6tr in ring. — 7 sts

Row 2: Ch5 (counts as tr, ch1), 2tr in first st, 1tr in ea of next 2 sts, (2tr, ch3, 2tr) in next st, 1tr in ea of next 2 sts, (2tr, ch1, tr) in last st. — 14 sts

The simple rows of treble crochet in this top down triangular shawl give the fabric a beautiful drape and texture.

Multicolor stripes are optional.

Row 3: Ch5 (counts as tr, ch1), 2tr in first st, 1tr in ea of next 6 sts, (2tr, ch3, 2tr) in ch3 sp, 1tr in ea of next 6 sts, (2tr, ch1, 1tr) in last st. — 22 sts

Fasten off.

Row 4: With color B, slst to join in last st, ch5 (counts as tr, ch1), 2tr in first st, 1tr in ea st to ch3 sp, (2tr, ch3, 2tr) in ch3 sp, 1tr in ea st across to last st: (2tr, ch1, 1tr) in last st. — 30 sts

Rows 5 – 6: Rep row 4. — 46 sts

Fasten off.

Row 7: With color C, slst to join in last st. Rep row 4. — 54 sts

Rows 8 – 9: Rep row 4. — 70 sts

Fasten off.

Rows 10 – 18: Rep row 4 three times in color A, three times in color B, and three times in color C.

Row 19: Rep row 4 in color A.

Edging:

Row 20: Ch3, work 5tr in specified stitch. Remove hook, insert hook in first and last st, yo, pull through both sts, ch1 to tighten (5trpopcorn made). Ch3, slst in same st. *1sc in ea of next 3 sts, ch3, 5tr-popcorn in next st, ch3, slst in same st. Rep from * across.

Do not fasten off.

Row 21: Working across end of rows of rows 19 to 1 and back through 19, work 4sc in ea end of row across.

Fasten off.

Finishing: Weave in ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and allow to dry.
