This is a super simple side-to-side construction knit up quickly with bulk weight yarn. The collar is picked up and knit in the easiest of short row techniques – in garter stitch without the wrap and turn technique.

What you will need:

• 580 yds (530m) #5 bulky weight yarn
  and
  290 yds (264m) additional yarn for optional sleeves
• US 13 (9mm) circular knitting needles to accommodate stitches in rows, 24 in cord length or longer
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Shown in: 

Be So Easy Yarn; 100% milk cotton, #5 bulky weight yarn; 145 yds (132m) per 3.5 oz (100g) ball; color Fuchsia, 4 balls for cardi wrap vest and 2 balls additional for optional sleeves.

Gauge:

8 sts / 10 rows = 4 in (10cm) in body stitch pattern, after blocking.

Finished Size:

24 in (61cm) long from shoulder to hem.

50 in (127cm) wide from side to side.

8 in (20.3cm) between armholes.

Stitch Guide:

Knit (k), purl (p), cast on (co) and bind off (bo).

Instructions:

Co 53 sts

Row 1: Knit across.

Row 2: K1, *p1, k1. Rep from * across

Rows 3 – 66: Rep rows 1 – 2 thirty-two more times.

First armhole opening:

Row 67: Loosely BO 16 sts, knit to end.

Row 68: K1, *p1, k1. Rep from * across, KCO 16 sts. — 53 sts

Rows 69 – 82: Rep rows 1 – 2 twelve more times.

Second armhole opening:

Row 83: Loosely BO 16 sts, knit to end.

Row 84: Rep row 68.

Rows 85 – 150: Rep rows 1 – 2 thirty-three times.

BO all sts loosely.

Shawl Collar:

Row 1: With right side facing, working across top of wide edge, pick up and knit into every 3 out of 4 row-end sts across across right front (49 sts), KCO 1 st, pick up and knit into every 3 of out of 4 row-end sts across center back (18 sts), KCO 1 st, pick up and knit into every 3 out of 4 row-end sts across left front (49 sts). — 120 sts

Row 2: K61 sts, turn.

Row 3: K6 sts, turn.

Row 4: K11 sts, turn.

Row 5: K16 sts, turn.

Row 6: K21 sts, turn.

Row 7: K26 sts, turn.

Row 8: K31 sts, turn.

Row 9: K36 sts, turn.

Row 10: K41 sts, turn.

Row 11: K46 sts, turn.

Row 12: K51 sts, turn.

Row 13: K56 sts, turn.

Row 14: Knit across. —  (56 + 32) = 88 sts

Row 15: Knit across. — 120 sts

Rows 16 – 28 : Rep row 14 thirteen more times.

BO all sts loosely.

Sleeves (Optional, make 2):

Co 26 sts, join in round. — 26 sts

Rounds 1 – 8: *K1, p1. Rep from * around. — 26 sts

Round 9: *(K1, p1) in ea of next 2 sts, k1, p1, k1, p1. Rep from * three more times, k1, p1. — 34 sts

Round 10: Knit around. — 34 sts

Round 11: *K1, p1. Rep from * around. — 34 sts

Rep rounds 10 – 11 until sleeve is 20 in, or desired length, long. BO all sts loosely.

Finishing:

Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and allow to dry.
