What you will need:

  • Sweater: 284 (312, 343, 378, 415, 457, 503, 553) yds or 259.6 (285.2, 313.5, 345.5, 379.3, 417.7, 459.8, 505.5)m #3 dk weight yarn

Sweater: color A Seaside Siesta, 1 (2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2) balls, color B Periwinkle, 1 (2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2) balls.

Pants: Periwinkle, 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4) balls.

Note: Be So Baby Yarn is discontinued. Here are some suggested yarn substitutions for a suitable DK weight yarn:

Ice Yarns:

Cotton Bamboo Light Yarn: 60% bamboo / 40% cotton; 153 yds (140m) per 100 gm (3.5oz) ball. It comes in 29 colors. The suggested needle size is 3 – 4 mm (US 4 – US 6). I think the drape of this yarn would be comparable to Be So Baby Yarn. It is labeled a #3 DK weight yarn. This yarn retails for $2.25/ball or $8.99 per 4 balls.

Jimmy Beans Wools:

Sirdar Snuggly Baby Bamboo DK Yarn: #3 dk weight 80% bamboo / 20% wool; 104 yds per 50 gm ball; needle size US6. I think the drape and weight of this yarn would be comparable to Be So Baby Yarn. It comes in 13 colors retails for $6.75 per ball.

Knit Picks:

CotLin: #3 Dk weight 70% Tanguis Cotton, 30% Linen; 123 yds per 50gm skein; suggested needle size US 5 – 7. I think the drape and weight of this yarn would be comparable to Be So Baby Yarn. It comes in 44 colors and retails for $4.99 per skein.

Sirdar:

Sirdar Snuggly Baby Bamboo DK; #3 Dk weight 80% bamboo / 20% wool; 104 yds per 50gm ball; Suggested needle size US6. I think the drape and weight of this yarn would be comparable to Be So Baby Yarn. It comes in 12 colors and retails for $6.50 per ball.

Finished Size:

18.5 (20, 22, 23, 24, 25.5, 27, 28.5) in or 47 (50.8, 55.9, 58.4, 61, 64.8, 68.6, 72.4)cm.

Chest circumference to fit newborn (3mo, 6mo, 1-2yr, 2-4yr, 4-6yr, 6-8yr, 8-10yr).

Gauge:

17 sts / 20 rows = 4 in (10cm) in blocked single crochet through back loop only (sc-blo) or in sc/dc stitch pattern.

Instructions:

Kimono Top:

Note: This top starts at shoulders and is worked down to hem for back. Then right and left fronts are picked up from back shoulder and worked down to hem. The sleeves are worked simultaneously with shoulder and yoke.

Back:

Row 1: With color A, ch92 (95, 102, 108, 120, 140, 160, 180), sc in 2nd ch from hook and ea ch across. — 91 (94, 101, 107, 119, 139, 159, 179) sts

Row 2: Ch1, sc-blo in ea st across.

Rep row 2 for 16 (16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23) more rows. Fasten off.

Lower Back:

Row 1: Join color A with slst to 26th (26th, 28th, 29th, 34th, 42nd, 51st, 60th st from edge, ch1, sc-blo in ea of next 38 (40, 44, 48, 50, 54, 56, 58), leaving remainder unworked. — 39 (41, 45, 49, 51, 55, 57, 59) sts

Row 2: Ch1, sc-blo in ea st across.

Rep row 2 until piece measures 5.5 (6, 6.5, 7, 8, 10, 12, 14) in or 14 (15.2, 16.5, 17.8, 20.3, 25.4, 30.5, 35.6)cm from underarm. Fasten off. 

Right Front:

Yoke & Sleeve:

Row 1: With color A, join with slst to first free loop from beg ch of back shoulder, ch1, sc in same ch, 1sc in ea of next 37 (38, 41, 44, 50, 59, 68, 81) chs, leaving remainder unworked. — 38 (40, 42, 45, 51, 60, 69, 82) scs

Row 2: Ch1, sc-blo in ea st across. — 38 (40, 42, 45, 51, 60, 69, 82) scs

Rep row 2 until it measures 1.75, 1.75, 2, 2, 2, 2.5, 2.5, 2.75) in or 4.5 (4.5, 5.1, 5.1, 5.1, 6.4, 6.4, 7)cm from beginning, ending on a row that ends at sleeve cuff. 

Next row: Ch1, sc-blo in ea of next 24 (25, 28, 29, 33, 42, 51, 60) sts, leaving remainder unworked.

Rep last row until sleeve measures 3.5 (3.5, 3.75, 4, 4.25, 4.5, 4.75, 5) in or 9 (9, 9.5, 10.2, 10.8, 11.4, 12.1, 12.7)cm from beginning. Fasten off.

Body:

Row 1: With color B, join with slst to first skipped st on yoke, ch1, sc in same st, dc in next st, *sc in next st, dc in next st. Rep from * across. — 12 (14, 14, 16, 18, 18, 18, 22) sts

Row 3: Ch1, sc in first dc, dc in next sc, *sc in next dc, dc in next sc. Rep from * across to last st: (dc, sc) in last st. — 13 (15, 15, 17, 19, 19, 19, 23) sts

Row 4: Ch1, (sc, dc) in first st, *sc in next dc, dc in next sc. Rep from * across. — 14 (16, 16, 18, 20, 20, 20, 24) sts

Rep rows 3 – 4  until stitch count increases to 39 (42, 45, 49, 51, 55, 57, 59) sts. 

Next row: Ch1, sc in first dc, dc in next sc, *sc in next dc, dc in next sc. Rep from * across.

Rep last row until front measures 9 (9.5, 10.25, 11, 12.25, 15.6, 16.75, 19) in or 22.9 (24.1, 26, 28, 31.1, 39.6,  42.5, 48.3)cm from shoulder. Fasten off. 

Assembly:

Sew side seams, sleeve seams and colorblocked yoke seams.

Note: With a stitch marker, mark end of row on right and left front where increases end and remainder of fronts are worked even.

Edging:

Join color B with slst to center back neck, ch1, slst in next ch, (ch1, slst in next ch) across back neck, (ch1, slst in next end of row) along left front, (ch1, slst  in next st) across lower body  hem, (ch1, slst in next end of row) along right front, (ch1, slst) across back neck chs to end, slst to beg of round to join. At the same time, at the marked end of row on left front, ch39, slst in 2nd ch from hook  and each ch across, then continue in established edging pattern  to next marked end of row on right front. Ch5, slst in same st to create a small buttonhole on right front, then continue in established edging pattern to end. Fasten off.

Second Tie: Slst to join to right side seam parallel to the left front tie. Ch39, slst in 2nd ch from hook and ea ch across. Fasten off.

Pants:

Legs (make 2):

Row 1: With yarn B, ch41 (43, 47, 49, 51, 55, 57, 61), sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next ch, *sc in next ch, dc in next ch. Rep from * across. — 40 (42, 46, 48, 50, 54, 56, 60) sts

Row 2: Ch1, *sc in next dc, dc, in next sc. Rep from *  across.

Rep row 2 until leg is 11 (12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 24, 28) in or 28 (30.5, 33, 35.6, 40.6, 50.8, 61, 71.1)cm long. Fasten off.

Sew both left and right leg to each other for upper half to create body and sew each leg to itself for lower half to create legs.

Ankle hem:

Slst in ea ch around. Fasten off.

Waist hem:

Round 1: Join with slst to st at center back waist seam, ch1, sc in ea st around, slst to top of first st at beg of round to join.

Round 2: Ch1, sc in ea st around, slst to top of first st at beg of round to join.

Round 3: Ch1, 1sc in ea of next 2 sts, *ch2, skip 2 sts, 1sc in ea of next 2 sts. Rep  from * around, slst to first st at beg of round to join. If there are extra sts at the end of the round, work 1sc into ea of them.

Round 4: Ch1, work 1sc in ea sc and 2sc in ea ch2 sp around, slst to top of first st at beg of round to join.

Round 5: Rep round 2. Fasten off.

Drawstring:

Ch181 (197, 218, 229, 240, 255, 271, 287), slst in 2nd ch from hook and ea ch across. Fasten off.

Starting at center front, weave drawstring through eyelet holes of round 3 on waist of pants.

Finishing:

Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and allow to dry.
