The Kristin Omdahl Show

I am a positive, creative person who is enthusiastic about sharing what I know with anyone who is interested in learning. I always have been, long before I even began knitting and crocheting. I have a strong desire to learn and grow, and that is just who I am, personally and professionally. I have some very exciting things to share with you in the near future. And with any progress, there is inevitably some changes. In this post, I want to share with you some of the behind the scenes of what is happening.

Over the last 18 years I have worked in many different facets both in and around the craft industry. I made and sold ready-to-wear retail and wholesale, I designed almost 1000 knit and crochet patterns for yarn companies, magazines, book publishers and eventually on my own website. I published dozens of how-to craft books, including many best-selling knit and crochet pattern books. I have starred on two different crafting TV shows. And I produced over 2,000 videos on my award winning YouTube Channel. I started my own line of Kristin Omdahl products including gorgeous yarns, bags, tools and more. And I created a charity as a way to give back. A portion of every sale of the KO brand helps survivors of domestic violence with my charity Project Kristin Cares.

Some things have stayed the same over the last 18 years and some things have obviously changed. As I know better, I always try to do better. I try to listen closely to my audience and my customers to see what I can do to make their experience with my brand and me the best it can be. Sometimes that means improving my website with more features and customer benefits. Sometimes that means learning new skills to improve my pattern writing, chart drawing or video production skills. Sometimes that means launching new yarns and products, or discontinuing old ones. My intention has always been to empower others through my experience and enthusiasm to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. Yet, I have also learned I will never please everyone. That is a fact of life that I must accept.

For the last 4 years I have been using the livestream tools on my YouTube channel to connect with my audience for 30 minutes daily. It is a way for me to communicate in real time with my audience, customers, fans and others from all over the world. My goal was to always be transparent, authentic, positive while encouraging others to do the same; whether I spoke about nature, crafts, or other parts of my lifestyle that reflected positivity, creativity and joy. I struggled to decide on a name at first because I really wanted to share my enthusiasm for a creative life and didn’t want to limit myself to anything. However, I settled on the name Yarn on the Beach because I though it was something I could provide consistently since I was then driving my son to tennis daily and the courts were very close to the beach. I also called it a podcast, because I thought calling it a show was too vague. In hindsight, podcast was probably an inaccurate description, but I stuck with it. And I was nervous; I wasn’t sure how people would react and wanted to justify my show idea with the “right keywords”.

There came a time in my life when I was no longer driving my son to tennis every morning and it became hard to consistently go to the beach every single day for a 7:45am live show. So to try to be accurate in my show’s title, I renamed it Create Share Inspire Podcast. Some of my audience was confused about the name change, and in their reaction to change, some even shared negative feedback and false accusations. However, I remained positive and continued with my show. And renaming the show alleviated some of the pressure for me to be able to sometimes do the show in my backyard or in my studio, when I felt the content I wanted to share was more appropriate in those areas, or if weather did not permit outdoors or beach locations. But I was still nervous; and the name again reflected my justification of trying to use the “right keywords”.

Eventually my audience grew to accept the name change and I even opened a private Facebook group for the followers of Create Share Inspire Podcast to socialize and share their projects with my yarns and patterns. Once my new website had the long anticipated Share A Project feature, the group no longer served the same purpose it had when originally created. Not everyone plays nicely together; and not everyone likes to follow rules. Eventually, I lost interest in monitoring this space to try to keep it as light and fun as I originally intended. I couldn’t justify the work it required and closed down the group. If you haven’t checked out the Share A Project feature on my website I highly recommend browsing all the extremely talented and creative posts. And you can comment and interact on everyone’s shared projects, too!

And now here we are 4 years into my livestream daily show and I feel limited again. I feel like there is a disconnect between my website, my YouTube channel, my livestream show and my other social media accounts. I go by Kristin Omdahl everywhere (website, Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, Pinterest, and everywhere else I have an online presence). After all the years as a TV personality and author, that is how most people know me. Originally I wanted to call my livestream show The Kristin Omdahl Show. But I was afraid of being too bold. I felt like I had to justify the relevance of my show by calling it something to do with what I was offering or the “right keywords”, instead of owning the fact that it is ME that I want to share with you. I am an intelligent, thoughtful, creative woman who has a lifetime of experience turning the ordinary into the extraordinary with my hands. I am enthusiastic about learning, and want to share my knowledge and joy with anyone who wants to join me.

Yes, I will share my love of knitting, crochet and yarn. Yes, I will share my love of nature and animals. Yes, I will share my love of positivity, inclusivity and self care. Yes I will share my love of fashion and beauty. Yes, I will share my love of being creative in the kitchen. Yes I will share the ways in which I turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. And I believe The Kristin Omdahl Show is the title that embodies all that I want to share with you, with no limitations.  Please join me for episode 901 on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 – I have so many more exciting things to share with you!

Let us make time to create, share and inspire, today and every day.

xoxo, Kristin

It really doesn’t matter what it is called. It’s the content and community that matters to me. I’ve been way since practically day one. I only use your yarns and most of the time your patterns. See you in September!
