Turn the Page with Kristin Omdahl

As I sit at my desk to write this announcement, I can’t help but look back at all the chapters that brought me to this moment.

  • I began my knit, crochet and yarn career out of desperation to support my 22-month-old baby and me, surrounded by constant death and kidnapping threats. And still I persevered.
  • I sold ready-to-wear handmade garments and accessories, and then wholesale read-to-wear handmade garments and accessories before parlaying that into knit and crochet pattern design, authoring books, and debuting on TV as a craft expert and TV personality. I did all of this from my kitchen table and still I persevered.
  • Eight years ago, when the book publishing industry crashed and my income was reduced by 90% without warning, I parleyed all my skills into the yarn business. I regrouped from promoting other books, magazines, publications, other video sources and other brands, to becoming the spokesperson for my own yarn brand with my website, exclusive knit and crochet patterns, self-published books and YouTube Channel. And I persevered.

During these eight years I have created an enormous body of work. Hundreds of knit and crochet patterns, thousands of tutorial videos, a livestream podcast show that is about to celebrate the 1,000th episode and a charity that gives back to survivors of domestic violence! Wow. So many wonderful accomplishments thanks to taking a chance on myself and creating thoughtful and gorgeous yarns and products.

Change is never easy, especially when it isn’t your choice. As many of you know, I have been living in rentals for the last 18 years since Marlon and I returned to the USA and supporting us exclusively with my craft business. And that has come with abrupt changes along the way when any given living situation ended. And here we are facing an unforeseen change again.

Property values have skyrocketed in my area and my landlord is planning to sell the home I rent from him. Unfortunately, the prices of comparable spaces are so astronomically expensive in this area, that I will not be able to find a home that can also house the inventory for my yarn business. I need to drastically downsize, regroup and figure everything else out.

My design business is thriving and staying. My YouTube Channel, my knit and crochet patterns and my books are thriving and staying. And I will continue to teach, design and inspire anyone who wishes to remain with me through this major change. However, right now I have to let go of all physical products. Perhaps I will be able to bring them back one day. But I will not be able to downsize to the extreme level I need to and still house this inventory.

If you love my yarns, bags, and other accessories, please stock up! It may be the last time you can. Bulk discounts are in place for deep discounts (up to 30%) and free shipping still applies to all orders over $75 US and $150 international. And for every $25 in yarn you place in your cart, add a PDF knit or crochet pattern and it will automatically be free with purchase. If you are logged into your account at the time of purchase, receive reward points and have access to your patterns in your own download library with 24/7 access and unlimited downloads.

Won’t you please consider helping me turn the page and start the next chapter? The sooner I can sell all physical products, the sooner I can downsize and turn the page to my next chapter.

When one door closes, others will open. I believe it. I know it. I will persevere. You’ll see.

xoxo, Kristin

I am so sorry you have to move! I know that you will land on your feet like Becker & Bjorn, but meanwhile it’s so scary. And all your physical inventory is so precious–I have only bought your yarns since I discovered them because they are so unique & wonderful. I do have a stash, but if I could I would buy so much more & all the double zip mesh bags possible. I’ll buy all I can when I get my next check. I feel like crying. However, maybe you will be discovering things that you love to do even more after you find your new home, instead of stocking physical inventory & dying yarn. I bet though that you will want to dye yarn again because you are in love with color & are a genius at it. I will put you in my prayers every day for all the best to happen for you. So much love!

I am so sad to hear this. For years I have been buying your yarn only. I have to check my inventory and see what I “need”.
    Chin up!

Have been following you for a long time. Most impressed by your classy designs and consistent quality of design and color schemes . Keep up the good work!

Life is a challenge, as you keep proving. I do suggest that Florida is still cheaper than most parts of the country. You may find that the East Coast is less expensive than the West. Volucia and Brevard counties in particular are still centrally located and are less expensive than other, more urban, areas.

    Good luck to you.
