Sarita Knit Sweater FREE Pattern

Sarita Knit Sweater FREE Pattern
by Kristin Omdahl

A fine gauge, sport weight, short sleeved pullover with unique sleeve treatment, lace medallion motif and a keyhole design. Customize the sweater in 7 or more ways with minimal modifications.

The delicate gauge of this sweater is flattering on a variety of figures and offers subtle hip ease without increases or decreases. The sleeve detail is embellished after the armhole is created for the optical illusion without the elongated armhole. Customize the sweater in 7 or more ways with minimal modifications. The lace medallion and keyhole openings are both optional as a pair, or separate, and the sweater is completely reversible from front to back.

Row 33: sl1, knit across

Row 34: sl 1, purl across

Rep rows 33 – 34 until front measures 8.5 (9, 9.5, 10, 10.5, 11)” from separation of front and back.

Next row: sl1, k17 sts, BO 53 (83, 77, 89, 101, 113) sts, k 18 sts. Place left and right shoulder sts on
stitch holder. They will be joined with back shoulders when back is complete.

Back:
Row 1: with right side facing, sl1, knit across

Row 2: sl1, purl across

Rep rows 1 – 2 for 0.5 (1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3)”

Separation for keyhole opening:
Right back
Next right side row: sl1, k 44 (50, 56, 62, 68, 74), turn, skipping rem sts on needle

Next row: sl1, purl across

Rep lasts 2 rows until right back measures 8.5 (9, 9.5, 10, 10.5, 11)” from separation of back and
front.

Left back:
Repeat as for right back, except work on the rem back sts

Rep 2 rows until left back measures 8.5 (9, 9.5, 10, 10.5, 11)” from separation of back and front.

Joining back row:
With right side facing, beginning with right back, sl1, k43, k2tog with last st of right back and first st of left back, k44. — 89 (101, 113, 125, 137, 149) sts

Next row: sl1, purl across

Next row: sl1, k17, BO 53 (83, 77, 89, 101, 113), k18.

Shoulder seams:
With wrong sides facing, using 3-needle bind off technique, join 18 front and back sts for right
shoulder, fasten off. Join 18 front and back sts for left shoulder and fasten off.

Sleeves:
Note: sleeves are longer than the armhole openings on the sides of the sweater. The picking up of
sleeves begins 5” below armhole opening, continues by picking up sts along the sleeve opening
and concludes with picking up and knitting into the sides of the sweater 5” below the armhole
opening.

Right sleeve:
Note: we are working into the side of the right side “seam” of sweater. Because we are holding the sweater sideways, as you pick up sts to the left (as you would normally) you are moving vertically on the sweater toward the armhole. To acheive the correct gauge, pick up 5 of 8 sts vertically toward armhole edge, move over one row toward back, pick up and knit in 5 of next 8 rows vertically toward armhole edge, move over one row toward back, pick up and knit in 5 of next 8 rows vertically toward armhole edge. — 15 sts on needle. You should be at the armhole edge now. Pick up and knit every stitch in the selvedge edge of the sleeve opening. Note: because we slipped the first st of ea row, you are picking up in ea of these elongated stitches around armhole. Working in reverse direction on front side of sleeve below armhole edge, pick up and knit in 5 of next 8 rows vertically directly below front side of armhole edge, move over one row toward center of sweater side seam (toward marker in center of armhole edge), pick up and knit in 5 of next 8 rows vertically, move over one row toward side seam, pick up and knit in 5 of next 8 rows vertically.

Row 2: knit across

Rep row 2 until sleeve is 3” long. Bind off loosely.

Repeat for left sleeve.

Weave in all loose ends. Block to finished measurements and let dry.
