Tender Vespa Crochet Cowl FREE Pattern

This colorful cowl is worked in square and coordinating triangle motifs using 3 colors of Be So Tender 100% organic cotton, worsted weight yarn. The square motifs are positioned in diamond formation and the triangle motifs are joined to the squares as you go. The delicate and simple edging is worked into the end of rows of the triangle motifs.

What you will need:
3 colors of #4 worsted weight yarn
J/10 (6mm) crochet hook

Gauge: ea square motif is 5.5” square

Finished size: 9” tall x 30” circumference

Special Stitches:
2dc-tog: yo, insert hook in specified st or sp, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, insert hook in next specified st or sp, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook. Yo and pull through all 3 loops on hook.
3dc-cl: yo, insert hook in specified st or sp, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, *yo, insert hook in same specified st or sp, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook. Rep from * once more. Yo and pull through all 4 loops on hook.
ch3 picot: ch3, slst to 3rd ch from hook to form picot

Instructions:
Square Motif: (make 4)
with color A, ch5, slst to 5th ch from hook to form ring.
Round 1: ch4 (counts as dc, ch3), dc in ring. Ch3, 3dc-cl in ring, ch3, *(dc, ch1, dc) in ring, ch3, 3dc-cl in ring, ch3. Rep from * two more times, slst to 3rd of beg ch to join. Fasten off.

Round 2: with color B, join with slst in any ch3 sp, ch1, sc in same sp, ch3, sc in next ch3 sp, ch3, 3dc-cl in ch1 sp, *sc in next ch3 sp, ch3, sc in next ch3 sp, ch3, 3dc-cl in next ch1 sp, ch3. Rep from * 2 more times, slst to sc at beg of round to join. Fasten off.

Round 3: with color C, join with slst in next ch3 sp. *Ch3, 2dctog in same ch3 sp and next ch3 sp, ch3 picot, ch3, sc in next ch3 sp, ch5, 3dc-cl in next ch3 sp, ch5, sc in next ch3 sp. Rep from * around, replace last sc with slst to first sc at beg of round to join. Fasten off.

Triangle Motif: (make 6)
with color A, ch5, slst to 5th ch from hook to form ring.
Row 1: ch4 (counts as dc, ch3), dc in ring. Ch3, 3dc-cl in ring, ch3, *(dc, ch1, dc) in ring, ch3, 3dc-cl in ring, ch3, (dc, ch1, dc) in ring. Fasten off.

Row 2: with color B, join with slst in last dc on prev row, ch1, sc in same st, *ch3, 3dc-cl in ch1 sp, ch3, sc in next ch3 sp, ch3, sc in next ch3 sp. Rep from * once more, ch3, 3dc-cl in last ch1 sp, ch3, sc in last dc. Fasten off.

Row 3: with color C, slst to last ch3 sp on prev row, ch1, sc in same sp, *ch3, 2dctog in same ch3 sp and next ch3 sp, ch3 picot, ch3, sc in next ch3 sp, ch5, 3dc-cl in next ch3 sp, ch5. Rep from * once more, sc in next ch3 sp, ch3, 2dctog over same ch3 sp and next ch3 sp, ch3 picot, ch3, sc in last ch3 sp. Fasten off.

When joining motifs, join in the picots and 3dc-clusters on row 3 and round 3 of each motif.

Edging: working in end of rows of the triangle motifs, sc in any end of row. *ch3, 3dc-cl in same sp, sc in next end of row. Rep from * around, slst to first sc at beg of round to join.
Repeat for second side of edging.Fasten off. Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and let dry.
