Sandy Beaded Scrunchie Crochet Pattern
Scrunchies are back! And this is a really easy way to experiment with beading crochet. Choose colors for your favorite cheerleader, or college sports fan, or make them for a teacher in the school colors. Any color combination would be fun!
I love to wear the beaded crochet scrunchie over a a high bun with an off-the-shoulder top. And when I wear the bright pink scrunchie, I like to match my lipstick with it, too!
One of reasons I am happy to see scrunchies back in style is because they are way less damaging to my hair than traditional hair ties.
Crocheting a scrunchie is actually a super simple process. The first round of the stitches are worked right around the hair tie! And from there the tiered volume is creating by making two sets of the remaining rows, one set in the front loop of the first round and the other set in the back loop of the first round. Simple yet so effective and voluminous!

Be So Sporty is a #2 sport weight yarn that is 100% bamboo. It is soft, lustrous and comes in many hand dyed colors, all hand dyed in Kristin Omdah’s Florida studio.

150 yds (137m) #2 sport weight yarn

E/4 (3.5mm) crochet hook

(64) 6mm beads

Beading needle

2 in (5cm) diameter elastic hair band

Yarn needle

Scissors

Be So Sporty Yarn:100% bamboo; 325 yds (297m) per 4 oz (113g); shown in color Feisty Flamingo.
(64) 6mm fire polish beads in color Siam AB
Gauge:
24 sts / 4 rows = 4 in (10cm) in double crochet. But gauge is not critical for this project.
Finished Size:
5 in (12.7cm) diameter and 1 in (2.5cm) tall when flat.

I’ve been making scrunchies for 25 plus years. I have one of every color for every outfit I own. Love your design. Made some with beads, too. I’m 80 years old and have been been crocheting since I was 3 1/2. I love doing my own designs. I never read directions anymore.
