This is a beautifully textured, oversized drapey vest that is very simple to knit. The stitch pattern is easy to memorize and the gathered shaping details on the front yoke are simple and refined. Add a belt for more styling possibilities.

What you will need:

  • 435 yds or (398m) #5 bulky weight yarn
  • US13 (9mm) knitting needles
  • 2 extra sets of knitting needles  (or 1 extra set of knitting needles and one set of stitch holders) for three needle bind off
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch holders

Note: You may use straight or circular knitting needles for this project. I would suggest 24 in (60cm) length circular cord or longer to accommodate the stitches. However, the entire project is worked flat so straights work as well, as long as you can fit all stitches on the needles.

Insert a third needle into the first stitch on each of two needles and knit them together as one stitch. *Knit the next stitch on each needle the same way, then use the left tip to lift the first stitch over the second stitch and off the needle. Rep from * until no stitches remain on first two needles, or otherwise stated in pattern.

Question. The Savanna shawl pattern indicates #3dk, but the shawl was done on #5. Which is the correct weight yarn I should be using to obtain the right gage on your pattern so that I can order the right amount of yarn?

Ravelry lists this yarn as a #6 super bulky yarn, I’ve been looking for a chunky or super bulky weight cotton for years, I’m dying to know if I have finally found it.
