This knit hat pattern is a prime example of deceptively easy. This is a super quick project knit up with #6 super bulky weight yarn and US15 (10mm) knitting needles. And, the stitch pattern is really easy, perfect for beginners, and looks far more complicated than it is. In this knit hat pattern I used a mock cable stitch pattern. Even if you have never knit cables before, I am sure you can knit these faux cables!

Kristin, thank you for posting this wonderful pattern. I’m starting it today. I live in New Orleans so it doesn’t get very cold here for very long and I knit hats for chemo patients. How can I make this pattern in a lighter weight yarn and what size needles should I use. Looking forward to your reply.
I enjoyed the video tutorial as well. Have a great weekend. Kindest regards.
Depending on what yarn you use, you would use an appropriately sized set of knitting needles for it. The yarn label is a good place too start. Once you determine your gauge, the stitch pattern is a multiple of 4 sts and you would want to add as many stitches in a multiple of 4 to get the circumference of the hat size you wish to make. For example, if you are getting 4 sts to the inch in a worsted weight yarn with a US8 (5mm) knitting needles, and you want to make a 20 in circumference hat, you would cast on 20 x 4 = 80 stitches.
