Each of these motifs are joined on two sides with the adjacent triangle motifs below, replacing ch5 sps with ch5 joins and slst join in the center of the 3dc sections of the corners.

Third Round of Joined Motifs:

Per the diagram, the third round of motifs that are joined to each other and to the round of motifs below are square motifs in color sequence 2. Each of these motifs are joined on two sides with the adjacent square motifs below, replacing ch5 sps with ch5 joins and slst join in the center of the 3dc sections of the corners.

Fourth Round of Joined Motifs:

Per the diagram, the fourth and final round of motifs joined together is triangles in color sequence 1. Each of these motifs are joined on two sides with the adjacent square motifs below, replacing ch5 sps with ch5 joins and slst joins in the center of the 3dc sections of the corners.

Upper Band of Bag:

Joining Bag to Base:

Round 1: With right sides facing and color A, slst evenly across end of rows of first band of triangle motifs with dcs on last round of bag base. There are 30 sts per motif to evenly slst both thicknesses together. Join with slst to first slst at beg of round to join. Fasten off.

Bag Handles:

Make 5 chains, one with each of the 5 colors, 5 feet long. Fasten off.

Make a 5-strand braid with the 5 chains.

Knot each end of braid to secure. Thread it through the ch2 holes of round 3 of upper band of bag, making sure that the braid is on the outside for the wider front and back sections (the 40dc sections) of upper band of bag. Knot both ends of braid together and weave in loose ends to hide them in the knot.

Finishing:

Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and allow to dry.

Lining (optional):

Cut two pieces of fabric in the shape and dimension of the schematic. Sew the tabs to their adjacent side. Then sew both pieces together. Iron the top edge to 1/2 in and turn the lining into the bag. Hand stitch the top of the lining to the top of the upper band of bag, just below the strap holes.
